Download Bart
You can download Bart now on iOS and Android:
What being on the stores means
Until now, access to Bart was available through an early access sign-up. Both Apple and Google require apps to go through a review process before they're listed publicly, checking that they meet platform standards for security, privacy, and functionality.
Bart has passed those reviews and is now live on both stores. Anyone in the UK can find it, download it, and get started straight away, no invitation required.
Getting started in 5 minutes
Once you've downloaded the app, getting set up takes about 5 minutes:
- Create your account: sign up with your email or continue with Google or Apple. No card required for the free trial.
- Connect your bank: Bart uses open banking via Finexer (FCA regulated) to import your transactions automatically. Read-only access, takes about 60 seconds to authorise.
- Connect to HMRC: link your Government Gateway account so Bart can file directly on your behalf. This is the same login you use for the HMRC app or online services.
- Review your transactions: Bart imports your history from 6 April and categorises everything automatically using AI. Review and correct anything with a tap.
- You're ready: your Quarter 1 records are being tracked and you'll be notified when it's time to submit.
Your first deadline is 5 August. Quarter 1 runs from 6 April to 5 July 2026. The quarterly update is due by 5 August. Bart will have your records ready well before then, but the sooner you connect, the less manual review you'll have to do.
Already HMRC-approved
Bart is also officially listed as approved MTD Income Tax software by HMRC. That means your submissions go directly to HMRC's live systems via our approved API connection; no workarounds, no bridging software required.
When you file through Bart, you're meeting your legal obligation under Making Tax Digital. You can verify our listing directly on HMRC's website.
What comes next
Quarterly updates are live and working. We're building out the End of Period Statement and Final Declaration, which are the year-end submissions that replace the old Self Assessment return under MTD. Those will be ready well ahead of the January 2027 deadline.
If you have feedback on the app (anything that's confusing, anything that could be simpler), we want to hear it. The app has an in-app feedback route, or you can reach us directly at hello@hellobart.com.
